Kat Mills Martin is a critically acclaimed film director and writer from Hawai’i.

In 2023, she was selected to be a Directing Fellow by Women in Film. Kat’s work has screened at Raindance Film Festival, Inside Out Toronto, Cinequest, Austin Film Festival, Heartland Film Festival, LA Asian Pacific Film Festival, and Hawai’i International Film Festival, among others. Kat graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she studied experimental theater, movement, and cinema.

Traversing the mundane to the transcendent, Kat’s work deconstructs elements of our human condition with compassion, reverence, and humor. Kat is currently co-writing the feature script LITERALLY DYING with Nora Logan, a dark comedy about a woman who undergoes a liver transplant and discovers that facing death was way easier than finding her purpose in life.

Kat’s award-winning debut feature WAKE UP, LEONARD, an improvised self-help comedy, screened at 20+ film festivals worldwide and is now streaming on Amazon Prime and AppleTV+. She is the founder of Studio Norté, an independent creative studio based in Los Angeles.

Kat is a longtime student of many spiritual traditions, namely classical Yoga, Tibetan Buddhism, Sri Vidya, Indigenous healing, and Tea Ceremony. She has received transmissions and initiations from teachers the world over and maintains a dedicated practice. When she’s not behind the lens, Kat provides mentorship, workshops, and serves tea.
